No, that’s not a typo. NCS – the music company that began life as NoCopyrightSounds – has announced an enormous milestone: its music has generated quite 235bn streams on YouTube so far .

NCS started life as a YouTube channel making music available for other YouTubers to use royalty-free, as long as they credited its creators and NCS. It was famously the launchpad for Alan Walker’s ‘Fade’, which was later re-recorded and released as ‘Faded’ becoming a global hit.

Now NCS is talking about its overall business. Its catalogue of more than 700 tracks by more than 600 artists has been used in more than 60m videos on YouTube, which is what generated the 235bn streams mentioned above. And actually, ‘Fade’ isn’t the most popular track in its catalogue. That honour belongs to ‘On & On’ by Cartoon, which was released in 2015, and has generated more than 14bn streams on YouTube so far, thanks to its use in more than 5m videos. “That’s more than double the amount of views ‘Despacito’ pulled in,” pointed out NCS in its announcement.

The top artist in NCS’ stable is Elektronomia, whose music has been featured in 6.3m YouTube videos, generating 19.1bn streams overall. NCS’ next plan to build on this success is the launch of its own ‘music library platform’ to help YouTubers browse and choose from its catalogue: that portal will be launching soon here
